  • An (almost) 1 Year Check-In

Hi friends, As River Reeds approaches its one-year mark next month, I’ve been finding myself a little reflective. I keep thinking about all of you who showed up with reeds, cases, curiosity, and a genuine desire to connect. I want to be honest, and I want to be gentle. Since my move, the energy around River Reeds has understandably softened. Life shifts, calendars fill, and without someone physically present to keep nudging things forward, it’s hard for a community like this to sustain momentum. That reality has been sitting heavy with me, because this group was never just a website… [read more]

Middle of my 3rd month of CrossFit and I haven’t lost weight, and I can’t really see any change yet. I’m able to increase weight (dumbbells, etc), and I’m not quite as sore as I used to be on the daily, so there’s some pluses. Trying not to be discouraged, I know this takes time, but c’mon man…. Quantum Leap

I’m way late watching Quantum Leap, but seeing a nonbinary actor portraying a nonbinary character has been so joyful to see. Last night I made it to S01E12, “Let Them Play.” This episode surrounds a trans basketball player and her struggle with acceptance. It was beautiful. It was a little “teen angst” at times but the message was amazing. Hearing those parents talk about how they just wanted their kids… [read more]

  • Cleartune

I’m constantly forgetting my tuner at rehearsals. This has become a pain, because I leave it at home on my music stand, then rush out the door without checking. So, I’ve started looking for a tuner app for my iPhone. Cleartune is my app of choice. It’s amazing! This is the best tuner I’ve come across for the iPhone. It’s about $3.99, but I must say that the free ones aren’t exactly what I was looking for. This one has adjustment settings just like an actual tuner. This was also the easiest to use. Read all about it here. [read more]

  • New (School) Year, New Ideas!

Hi everyone! I hope this email finds you doing well. I’ve made it to Maryland and am (mostly) settled in. The house is coming together, work is back to normal, though my clarinet has taken a bit of a hiatus. While I look for opportunities to play in my new area, I’d love to check in and see how things are going back in Louisville. Before I left, a few clarinetists mentioned interest in keeping River Reeds going — and I’m more than happy to help make that happen! I’ll continue supporting the group online by updating the website and… [read more]
