Clarinerd is a website devoted to music technology, pedagogy, theory, history, performance, and education. Music education handouts, exercises, and advice have been posted in order to pass it on to other clarinetists. Please consider checking out the site and share what you like or what could be improved upon. Becoming a better educator, musician, or performer, I’m convinced, is a group effort. The more info we share with each other, the better we can all be.
Sharon Murphy is a clarinetist and web developer living in Louisville, Kentucky. Her clarinet study began under Donald Story at Murray State University. She attended Ball State University to study with Dr. Caroline Hartig and, in 1998, received a Bachelor’s of Science in Instrumental Music Education. She continued her education, attending University of Louisville to study under the late Dallas Tidwell. She received a Master of Music in Clarinet Performance in 2008.
Her husband, Mat Murphy, plays tuba with the group Squeeze-bot. Their daughter, Clair, is learning to play the piano and continues the family’s love for music.
When Sharon isn’t writing code, you can find this “clarinerd” playing with the Louisville Winds, Louisville Concert Band, or in the pit orchestra of various local musicals.
In her spare time, Sharon enjoys reading, discovering new podcasts, practicing yoga with her daughter, and exploring the joys of the outdoors in the Bluegrass.
