clarinerd

music, tech, and all things nerdy

Hi everyone! I hope this email finds you doing well. I’ve made it to Maryland and am (mostly) settled in. The house is coming together, work is back to normal, though my clarinet has taken a bit of a hiatus.

While I look for opportunities to play in my new area, I’d love to check in and see how things are going back in Louisville. Before I left, a few clarinetists mentioned interest in keeping River Reeds going — and I’m more than happy to help make that happen! I’ll continue supporting the group online by updating the website and helping with communication. Here are a few ideas to get conversations started:

Middle School Recruit Assistance:

A few band directors reached out to me about our group — one in particular, Tim Gipson at JCTMS, mentioned his challenge in recruiting clarinetists. I think this could be a great opportunity for River Reeds. Imagine a small clarinet ensemble performing ahead of a band night, petting zoo, or concert — it could really inspire students to join in.

Online Support

River Reeds has always aimed to be a community hub for clarinetists in Louisville. I’d love to expand our website with resources like:

  • Available instructors: A list of teachers for lessons or sectionals.
  • Repair shops: Favorite places you’ve trusted — and your experiences there.
  • Upcoming performances: Whether you’re performing yourself or have students preparing for concerts, recitals, or ensemble events, let’s feature them on the site to help spread the word and celebrate their work!

Digital Communication

There’s been talk of starting a Discord channel, and I’m excited to share that it’s in the works! I’ll keep you updated as it develops.

I miss you all! My move was unexpected, but I’m hopeful we can keep River Reeds thriving — no matter where we are.
